Crypto trading and market-making firm GSR is committing $100 million to Hare, a new onchain credit business it is building with liquidity platform Turtle, according to CoinDesk’s report on the launch. The multi-year commitment will mostly take the form of a credit facility, with GSR’s capital providing anchor liquidity before outside investors arrive.
What will Hare’s first vaults hold?
Hare will launch two Aave-powered products: Hare USD Earn, a single vault for major dollar stablecoins, and Hare Gold Earn, for Paxos’ tokenized gold products PAXG and PAXGy. Paxos Labs is partnering on the gold product, CoinDesk reported.
Investors deposit assets into a vault, while its manager decides how to deploy the capital across lending markets and other strategies. Hare says it will focus on the credit risks involved, including collateral, counterparties and how positions could behave under market stress.
How will GSR’s $100 million be used?
GSR’s commitment is deployment capital, Hare CEO Connor Milner told CoinDesk: it is intended to give issuers liquidity from day one, while putting GSR’s own capital in the same vaults as other investors. The $100 million is a commitment to the business, not a reported amount already deposited into the vaults.
GSR’s backing will support Hare’s products as they launch. The report did not specify a date for when outside investors can begin using the vaults.
What role will Turtle play?
Turtle is working with Hare on the vault business and provides liquidity distribution. Hare will create and manage the vaults, using Aave for its initial lending products.
The launch adds a credit-focused vault operator to a market where investors use managers to put digital and tokenized assets to work. Hare’s first offerings center on stablecoins and tokenized gold; CoinDesk reported no further products or launch dates.
