Prepare a Wallet for a Cross-Chain Governance Payment
Prepare the source wallet with the required asset and gas, then verify the destination chain, governance address, memo and receipt before sending a cross-chain payment.

Prepare a cross-chain governance payment by matching the wallet, asset and network to the governance request before you send. Governance systems may ask for a proposal deposit, a treasury payment or a separate transaction; check the proposal instructions to identify which one applies. A payment alone may not count as a vote.
What should the wallet hold before you start?
The source wallet needs the asset being sent and enough of the source chain’s fee token for any approval and send transactions. On the destination side, check whether the route delivers the required governance asset directly or swaps into it, and whether the receiving wallet needs funds for a follow-up transaction.
Some routes use token approvals before a transfer, which grant a contract permission to spend tokens. Read the wallet prompt: confirm the asset, amount and contract, and avoid granting a larger allowance than the payment requires when the interface permits a smaller one.
How do you check a cross-chain route?
Check the source and destination networks, token, amount, recipient address and any required memo against the governance instructions. A route quote can change with network conditions, so review the amount expected at the destination, fees and expiry or time limit immediately before confirming.
For a fuller explanation of route choices and their trade-offs, see thor swap. The key distinction is whether the route transfers the same asset across chains or also exchanges it; a swap can change the amount delivered.
- Confirm the destination chain and governance contract or address from the official proposal page.
- Copy the full address and required memo exactly; some networks use a memo to identify the recipient or purpose.
- Check whether the quoted output meets any minimum deposit or payment amount.
- Keep the transaction ID and route receipt so you can trace the transfer if it is delayed.
What should you do after sending?
Wait for the route to show completion, then verify receipt on the destination chain and confirm the governance interface recognizes the payment. A source-chain confirmation by itself does not prove the destination received or credited the funds.
If the governance action requires a separate vote or confirmation, submit that transaction only after checking its proposal, choice and network in the wallet. The practical rule is to treat the route and the governance action as separate steps, each with its own confirmation.
